Beneath the city, where monks had once worked the stone into chambers and passageways, the vast, labyrinthine tomb became a home for the souls of the dead.The player will experience the crucial week during Ashley's visit to Lea Monde. Only the player, as Ashley Riot, will be able to uncover the truth.Ashley becomes involved in a battle between his faction, known as the Valendia Knights of the Peace, and two other factions. The other two factions being the Knights of the Cross, led by Romeo Guildenstern in charge of the Crimson Blades, and a cult by the name of Mullenkamp. The leader of Mullenkamp, Sydney Losstarot, is a self-professed prophet who preaches about human weaknesses and the end of the world.During this journey Ashley must battle formidable enemies from skeleton warriors to dragons. To be successful at beating these enemies the player will have to assemble better weapons and develop Break Arts for these weapons. The more a weapon is used against a specific enemy type the better the affinity, for that specific weapon type, will become against that type of enemy.

This system has some real depth and makes the game even more fun. The player will also have to develop better armour to protect Ashley from all sorts of trouble in the dark depths of Lea Monde. This system of developing weapons and armour has serious depth, which makes this game even more amazing!Learning Chain and Defense Abilities will also help Ashley proceed through Lea Monde. Player will have to assign these abilities to the buttons on the controller. The player will use Chain Abilities by pressing the assigned button at the exact moment Ashley's weapon hits the enemy.

If the player is successful, the attack will have an added effect. The player can link multiple Chain Abilities together if they continue pressing other Chain Abilities with perfect timing. Learning to use this system is very crucial and is another reason why this game is such a classic. It's not just about hitting the same button over and over like a lot of hack and slash dungeon crawling games that have come out in the past. Vagrant Story definitely requires some dextrous ability with the controller.Ashley will also have to learn Magic in order to stay alive.

There are five main types of magic classes each having its own list of spells. The types used are Warlock, Shaman, Sorcerer, Enchanter, and Special.Vagrant Story has a very high replay value. However only downside at the moment is that for a late year 2000 Squaresoft game, graphics seems of poor quality in comparison to other late Square PS1 releases, such as FFIX. You fight your way through the perilous depths of the dark and mysterious city of Lea Monde. Once a beautiful town bustling with the voices of thousands of villagers now lies abandoned and derelict. A great earthquake shook this once proud community and has left it completely devastated.

You play the part of Ashley Riot, a sword-for-hire known as a 'Riskbreaker'. You have been sent by members of a government society to infiltrate the Duke's manor which has been mysteriously set ablaze and to find the culprit responsible, the enigmatic Sydney Losstarot. Upon arriving you swiftly manage to sneak through the gates of the manor and infiltrate the renegades defenses. Ashley manages to corne r the renegade leader Sydney offguard and immediately demands his surrender. Unwilling to yield, Sydney foolishly charges at the Riskbreaker only to have an arrow shot directly through his heart. Laying down on the ground, presumably dead, Ashley approaches the body of Sydney only to be walked in on by Sydney's most trusted companion, Hardin.

In that moment Ashley picks up his sword and immediately begins to charge the man only to be knocked down to the ground by some unknown hand. Ashley turns to see that it was Sydney who has somehow managed to survive. Bewildered by the event, Ashley wonders how Sydney has managed to cheat death and walk away unscathed. Sydney them summons a wyvern to do battle with Ashley to aid in his escape and to keep Ashley occupied. Wyverns were thought to be the things of legend, nothing more. How is it possible that Sydney is able to summon such beasts of the darkness? After dispatching the mythical beast Ashley gazes out on to the horizon not realizing the amazing journey that awaits him.

Ashley Riot must traverse the derelict lands of Lea Monde in pursuit of Sydney Losstarot. How it's made rope. A once proud and beautiful city that now lays derelict due to an earthquake that managed to ravage the city in a massive upheaval.

Not much is known about the mysterious dark city of Lea Monde. It secrets have yet to be discovered. It is up to you to discover the truth and realize that not everything is as it seems.Upon your journey you will encounter many strange things only thought to be purely legend. Beasts, the undead, demons, dragons and phantoms will hinder your progress throughout your adventure. You will learn different battle and defense abilities as well as spells and weapon break arts.

You will have the ability to enhance your armor and weaponry through combining different materials and metals as you advance through the game. This will give you the edge you need to overcome the dark city of Lea Monde and it's deadly inhabitants. There is also a save+ feature which allows you to play the game over again and keep all your weapons, armor and several other items from a previous game. The possibilities in this game are quite literally endless. Build your powers carefully as that is the key to your success and your survival.Overall I give this game an excellent rating for an amazing and beautifully orchestrated soundtrack, nicely detailed environments, good play mechanics and a solid storyline. This game is on my list of personal favorites and I give it my highest recommendations.

An original breath of fresh air in the RPG worldThis is a unique RPG that is difficult to describe. That is because there is no other RPG like it, anywhere. Is this an action RPG or a turn based RPG? Vagrant Story's combat system is so unique that it is difficult to categorize. In the game you are able to target the body parts of your enemies, and when you execute and attack you can create an attack chain by timing your button presses. You can do the same thing when you are attacked to negate or lessen the damage.

You are also free to move around at any time to escape your enemy or target another, if you'd like. The game's story and dialogue between characters are presented using text bubbles that appear from the character's mouths, just like in a comic book. The game is dripping with style that seems to hold up well even today. My favo rite part of the game, besides the combat, is the weapon crafting system.

There are many different types of armor and weapons in the game world, some are made from different materials like bronze or silver. You are able to combine weapons and armor with each other to create new items. You can dis-assemble your swords, mix different hilts with the blades, insert gems in the hilts. The number of different weapon and armor combinations that you can create is staggering. After using your weapons and armor their affinity changes, making them more effective. The combat and weapons systems in Vagrant Story are exceptionally deep and are filled with creative genius. The replay value of the game is HIGH.

After completing Vagrant Story you can restart the game again using all the powers and items that you collected from before! New areas will become accessible as well. This is one of the best RPGs for PS1, and it must be experienced. Vagrant StoryIt's an awesome game I used to own it a few years back and someone stole the game from me. So It was a replacer.

But other then that it's awesome. See as you get into the game you have the ability to attack and never get hurt assuming you're good with comboing your attacks. The game plot is very captivating as far as drawing you in and keeping you goes. And for a ps1 game the graphics are phenominal.

So over all it's one of my all time favorites that I wanted to regain for my collection. And was just psyched to see it for the price tha I did. So if you were to ask me if I would suggest you play it. Oh by all means yes. It's awesome. Frustrating at some parts in the game. However over all a diffenant must own if you're a RPG gamer at all.
